The original NEV Funshape was inspired by the boards Billabong founder Gordon Merchant used to shape and surf at QLD’s Burleigh Heads in the 1970’s. His boards had a sweet elliptical outline, foiled thickness distribution and a curvy rocker; perfect for his backside attack on the long right hand walls.
By the early 80’s it was deemed a little uncool to paddle out on a flat, thick minimal or a longboard, so Nev set about designing a model for his big bloke buddies who ripped, but needed a little help. The Funshape was born using the progressive bottom curve and thickness distribution of a Hawaiian gun, but with a much fuller outline to add paddle power, buoyancy and stability.
This model became one of Nev’s biggest selling surfboards globally in the 80’s and 90’s because big guys could rip, satisfy their wave count and mix it up with the younger crew in the line-up. The result; everyone had heaps of FUN and kept in SHAPE. 
The Nev Funshape is now back in a new construction and with some minor improvements. With the perfect amount of rocker to hammer a nice turn, ample volume to get you in early in bigger & steeper waves, and enough surface area to keep you moving over flatter sections, this the perfect board to keep the older shredder in the mix.
